… or a sculpture of a bear… Either way, this woman was carving this humongous bear from a piece of red oak with a chainsaw by the highway in Fancy Gap, Virginia on Saturday. We were buzzing around on the motorcycle waiting to meet up with our weekend guests Aaron & Sarah, who were driving down on their motorcycle from Ohio, and stopped to check out her work.
We chatted with her about carving ice and carving wood and how she would be amazed at how easily she would take to carving ice given her obvious talent. The detail she created with her chainsaw was beautiful. I asked her if, when finished, if the bear would be happy or fierce. She said, “definitely fierce!” I think if I had that bear in my house / yard / office - I’d want him to be a happy bear so he wouldn’t scare people.
