It's a little after 1:30 and the rain has started. Winds are still relatively normal, and the boat is stationary. Both North Carolina and South Carolina have declared a state of emergency this hour.
One obvious change that has taken place is the water level has risen to a height we've never experienced before. We are typically sitting in about 7 feet of water at our slip, but we are currently in almost 9 feet.
Besides the reading on the depth gauges, two of the most tell tale signs are:
1-There is a pylon just off the bow of the boat. Normally one must look *up* at the sign afixed to it, and the fire extinguisher is usually at eye level. Now the sign is at eye level and the fire extinguisher looks like it might be knocked off the pylon by the trash receptacle if the water level gets much higher.
2-We can see the cars in the parking lot through the banisters that run along the retaining wall. We have NEVER been able to see the parking lot, even at the highest tide.
